Record Golds for BALI members at Chelsea Flower Show

BALI members at the 2017 RHS Chelsea Flower Show have been awarded a total of 20 medals – including a record breaking nine Gold, four Silver-Gilt and seven Silver – with BALI Registered Designers, Contractors, Affiliate and Training Providers (colleges) all celebrating.

And on the day the show officially opened to the public, BALI is also celebrated receiving a three-star award for its trade stand.

In the Show Gardens category, Registered Designer Gavin McWilliam MBALI and Registered Contractor The Outdoor Room achieved Gold for the Breaking Ground garden (pictured).

Registered Contractor Landscape Associates took Gold for Royal Bank of Canada Garden. And there was also a Gold medal for Registered Contractor Bowles and Wyer, whose inviting secret garden, The Linklaters Garden for Maggie’s, was a focus of attention for members of the press and celebrity guests.

There were also two Silver-Gilt medals for BALI members in the Show Gardens category - one for Associate Honorary Member Chris Beardshaw for The Morgan Stanley Garden and a second for the Silk Road Garden, Chengdu, China, built by Registered Contractor Willerby Landscapes.

Rounding off a successful 2017 on Main Avenue for BALI, a Silver medal was awarded to 500 Years of Covent Garden: The Sir Simon Milton Foundation Garden in partnership with Capco, designed by Registered Designer Lee Bestall MBALI and built by Registered Contractor JPH Landscapes. Registered Contractor Landform Consultants also achieved Silver for The Welcome to Yorkshire Garden.

In the Fresh Gardens category, Registered Designer Kate Gould MBALI obviously impressed the judges with her incredible City Living apartment garden, taking home a coveted Gold medal. Registered Contractor idverde is also celebrating after constructing and sponsoring the Gold medal winning Mind Trap garden.

Registered Contractor The Outdoor Room’s Breast Cancer Now Garden: Through the Microscope, scooped Silver-Gilt, alongside Registered Contractor Living Landscapes, who also received Silver-Gilt for the colourful Inland Homes: Beneath a Mexican Sky.

In the Artisan Gardens category, Registered Contractor Landform Consultants’ The Seedlip Garden inspired judges, taking Gold, as did The Viking Cruises Garden of Inspiration constructed by Registered Contractor Belderbos Landscapes. The CWGC Centenary Garden, designed and built by Honorary Associate David Domoney, was awarded Silver, as was Fiona Cadwallader’s The Poetry Lover’s Garden, built by Registered Contractor Landform Consultants.

BALI’s Training Provider college members also did well, with Sparsholt College and Capel Manor College both receiving Silver medals in the Discovery category for their exhibits, whilst BALI Registered Affiliate member Peter Beales Roses took Gold.

BALI Affiliate (supplier) members’ products were, of course, out in force on virtually every garden at the show. Their products also grace the BALI trade stand located on Eastern Avenue with a Live Picture XL from Mobilane, artificial grass flooring complete with BALI logo from Pile Height, two timber corner planters from WoodblocX, stunning plants supplied by Mulberry Plants and a metal garden Roman Arch from Harrod UK.

BALI’s Chief Executive Wayne Grills commented: “2017 is now officially a record year for Chelsea Gold medals for BALI, with Registered Designer, Contractor and Affiliate members taking home nine of this year’s coveted award. Twenty medals were presented to members in total, including Gold, Silver-Gilt and Silver, making this a triumphant year for our members and the association.

"BALI Registered Contractor and Designer members have truly excelled themselves this year at arguably the most prestigious flower show in the world, working alongside Registered Affiliate members to provide exceptional quality products to help attain those all-important medals.

"There are some wonderful gardens on show, all at the cutting edge of design and build, and we are immensely proud to be able to share in our members’ success and to have the opportunity to promote their professionalism and exquisite attention to detail to the thousands of visitors who will be at the show this week. Congratulations to you all. BALI’s trade stand, which was also awarded three stars this morning, is located on Eastern Avenue EA/491.”
