Swedish produced Aspen alkylate petrol was first introduced
to the professional forest workers in Sweden in 1988 after a chemist engineer
read an article about the effects normal unleaded petrol had on human organs. Alkylate
petrol is made from butane and other waste gases from the refining process of
crude oil and is extremely clean and free of solvents, benzene, olefins and
other toxic hydrocarbons. This means Aspen is classed as harmful rather than
toxic. In fact toxic hydrocarbon emissions are reduced by 99% compared to the
emissions of unleaded petrol when used in a small 2-stroke or 4-stroke engine.
Aspen dramatically reduces smoke and
smell and the risk of
developing leukaemia, cancer and serious damage to the human nervous system.
Furthermore, as Aspen is totally free of ethanol, solvents and olefins, Aspen
can be left in the machines for years without going off, or causing serious
corrosion within the fuel system - now a huge issue when using normal ethanol
blended unleaded pump fuels.
Such is the difference between using normal unleaded and
alkylate petrol that the Dutch health and safety ministry legislated 2 years
ago against using normal unleaded for professional users which underlines the
huge difference in toxicity (benzene which is highly carcinogenic as an
example).
Aspen is by far the biggest and most professional supplier of
alkylate petrol in Europe. Aspen is conveniently supplied through garden and
machinery dealers in the UK and sales are growing quickly as dealers (now
reaching 200) are really seeing the benefits in terms of reduced engine
maintenance issues and the beneficial health effects for the users.
AspenĀ is available as
a pre-mixed 2-stroke fuel (50:1 or 2% mix) or as a straight 4-stroke fuel in
both 5-litre cans or 200-litre drums.
