BASIS to host Sustainable Sports Conference at Olympic Park
The British Association for Sustainable Sport (BASIS) will host its 6th Annual Sustainable Sports Conference this year at the Queen Elizabeth Park, the home of the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Climate change featured prominently at the Rio 2016 Olympic Opening Ceremony after London 2012 positioned the sustainability in sport conversation so strongly four yuears ago.

The conference is aimed at sport and environmental professionals, facility managers and those working in sport at all levels and will provide key learning areas for sports facilities from community to professional venues to reduce their environmental footprint.

The conference will particularly focus on how the sustainability and sport conversation has progressed from London 2012. Highlights include:
  • Keynote presentation: "Educating and Involving athletes in the fight against catastrophic climate change" delivered by Michael Pedersen, former Head of the World Economic Forum's Partnering Against Corruption Initiative (http://minc.ch/). Michael will be speaking at the BASIS Conference between meeting in Portugal for the Sport Integrity Global Alliance and the European Commission's flagship event on Sport Governance.
  • Panel session discussing: "Why isn't sport talking about climate change?" A discussion of how sport will be affected by climate change, and what we could and should be doing about it. Including contributions from Climate Action, the Climate Coalition and others.
  • Sport sponsorship: from big brands to fans, how to harness ambassadors, sponsors and the power of sport to drive behaviour change and sustainability
  • Sport, plastic and the ocean environment
  • How the French Government is implementing sustainability into sport
  • Sustainability and outside broadcast of sports events.
