Supplied through UK Distributor Loxston Ground Care to address issues concerning maintenance of steep banking and valleys and operator health and safety, the University of Exeter has recently taken delivery of an IRUS Quatrak remote controlled mower.
For the University Grounds 0perations Manager, David Evans said: "Although the Quatrak is a recent addition we have already seen significant benefits in both performance and capabilities when compared with other machines.
"With a front mounted flail we use it primarily for work on steep banking and valleys adjacent to water and the results have been very good. From a health and safety perspective any potential hand, arm vibration problems have been eliminated and our operators enjoy using the machine. It makes light work off all types of growth including brambles and is an excellent piece of kit."
For Loxston Ground Care Peter Loxston added: "IRUS remote control mowers will go where standard walk behind or ride on mowers cannot go safely and are able to run on slopes of up to 50° for an extended period of time.
"The Quatrak model is the most innovative four wheeled remote on the market with 4wd and crab-steer options and the engine is maintained in an upright position by a zero gravity articulating system. Quatrack can be matched to 105cm and 125cm wide flail heads which can be started, the cutter engaged and all movements controlled, from a safe distance.
"The flail head with six rows of three back-to-back flails is capable of dealing with the toughest growth but is also able to do a first-class job on grass. Maximum cut height is 127mm and minimum is 25mm. Full lubrication of all components is maintained even when working under load conditions on steep slopes."
