Sports Turf Services (York) Ltd invested in some Riverlynx CDA (Controlled Droplet Application) spraying equipment for his housing contract based in West Yorkshire.
Owner Simon Race explained: "Up to now we have been using knapsacks to spray the kerb edges, block paving and around mowing margins, the knapsacks are heavy, need refilling regularly and they just weren't productive enough for us.
"I looked at various CDA lances, but after a demonstration of the Riverlynx system it stood out to me that this was the system to use. The Riverlynx lances are fitted with a peristaltic pump which means they apply an accurate dose, this is especially important since the actual amount of chemical applied is very low, previously I had used gravity lances which put me off CDA because they over applied and therefore weren't cost effective.
"The other advantage of the Riverlynx system is that you mix your own chemical, this appealed to me since the premixed CDA herbicide is very expensive. The Riverlynx Ecomark is mixed with a conventional glyphosate, this barely adds anytime to the operation and off you go.
"My operators have really taken to using this system, it is a different concept to using a knapsack because of the amount of chemical applied – once the system is put to work the extra productively the system brings can be seen quickly."
Riverlynx Ltd were purchased by Vale Engineering (York) Ltd in 2009 and were recently relocated from the previous site in Bristol to the Vale Engineering premises in York. Riverlynx products include two CDA lances and a range of carrier for mixing with herbicides.
