ICF Welcomes Andy Lederer as Development Director

The Institute of Chartered Foresters (ICF) has welcomed Andy Lederer as its new Development Director. Andy brings with him more than 11 years’ experience in the arboriculture sector, having worked with both the London Tree Officers Association (LTOA) and the London Borough of Islington.

Andy started his career as a tree surgeon before moving to Epping Forest District Council as Assistant Arboricultural Officer. In 2008, he joined Islington Council as a Tree Officer, and later progressed to Principal Tree Officer for the London Borough of Islington. Andy has chaired the LTOA’s PR and Communications Group since 2010 and has been involved in Massaria research, working closely with other tree officer groups across the UK.

ICF President David Henderson Howat FICFor described the importance of Andy’s role at ICF as it enters a new phase of growth. He said:

“The Institute is at an exciting point in its history, and our Development Director is a key role that will aid our development and membership growth. We are delighted to have Andy join us in this position. He will be a fantastic addition to the team.”

Andy will take up his role at the Institute in January, succeeding outgoing Development Director Russell Horsey MICFor. Andy said:

“I am extremely excited to begin working for the Institute of Chartered Foresters. I am enthusiastic and motivated to highlight the importance of the forestry and arboriculture sectors within the UK and the necessity to have suitable trained professionals involved in all aspects of tree and forestry management and maintenance.”

The recruitment of a new Development Director comes as part of a re-assessment of staff resources by the Institute. As part of this restructuring, ICF is now recruiting a Technical Officer to join Andy in its Bristol office. This small team will focus on enhancing chartered status through partnership working, training events, engagement with young professionals, coordination of policy responses and networking with its regional groups.
