Charcon,
the commercial hard landscaping division of Aggregate Industries, has been
awarded the contract to supply materials for Leeds City Council’s new Cycle
Superhighway between Leeds and Bradford.
The
£7.9 million-pound project will see segregated cycle routes being created on
key roads through Leeds city centre, building on the already well used network
for leisure and to access increasing employment opportunities within the city.
Work
is due to begin in February 2018, with 4,500m2
of Charcon’s Moordale Textured flag paving, Woburn Original block paving and
Charcon’s British Standard Kerb specified for the project.
Offering
consistency in colour and texture, Moordale Textured flag paving incorporates
Yorkstone and Limestone aggregates to maximise performance and durability and
is ideal for creating large areas of warm solid colour. Complementing Moordale
Textured paving, Woburn Original block paving is subtle and stylish with a
chamferless profile which creates a smoother riding surface.
Charcon’s
British Standard Kerb is designed to provide edge restraint in pedestrian
vehicular application and complies with British standards, as well as offering
a cost effective kerb for all applications.

The
project is expected to be complete by next summer and once finished, the new
routes will run along Wellington Street to City Square and from Queen Street to
Westgage, as well running north-to-south along St Peter’s Street.

were readily available and delivered to the agreed timescale.”
Charcon’s
British Standard Kerb for the project will be manufactured at Ashington,
Moordale Textured in Hulland Ward in Derbyshire and Woburn Original will be
produced in Burton-Upon-Trent.
