presenter and exceptional coach, Simon Holmes, has taken his passion for the
game to the next level with the conversion of his front garden into an
all-weather golf practice area.
Working with global
leaders in all-weather surfaces Huxley Golf, Simon can now refine his skills,
coach more effectively and enjoy quality time with his family.
Thrilled with the
result, Simon commented: “I have long recommended Huxley Golf greens to players
that I have coached and I thought it was about time I had one of my own!
I only wish I’d done it sooner.
“Like many, my work
and travel schedule means that I am quite time-strapped so the convenience of
being able to chip and putt at home is a major benefit and I’m looking forward
to it immensely. Importantly too, it will give my wife and I some real quality
family time with our two boys, both of whom are very keen golfers.”
He continues: “It’s so
hard to really work on your technique unless you have the perfect surface for
feedback. My Huxley Golf green allows me, my family and my clients to focus on
the mechanics of putting, understand slope and develop a feel for distance. The
weather in the UK causes so many variations in the speed and quality of putting
surfaces. Having a place you can go to, to iron out any kinks or work on your
tempo and speed control is vital if you want to improve your game.”
Huxley Golf’s Will
Alsop oversaw the project from beginning to end. He said: “We crafted a bespoke
putting and chipping practice area to meet Simon’s exact requirements with
three carefully thought-out hole positions, exacting contours and breaks on the
greens. Its design enables maximum playability in a relatively compact space
while visually complementing the family home – a key consideration since we
were working in the front garden. The whole area measures approximately 15ft
(4.5m) by 20ft (6m), bordered by a high density fringe surround.”
Simon Holmes has
coached over 80 tournament professionals that have together won over 50 titles
and 2 majors. He is also a resident golf professional at The Wisley and has
developed a proven golf tuition app.
