This year sees Green-tech celebrate 25 years of supplying the landscaping industry.
Green-tech was founded in North Yorkshire in 1994 by Richard and Rachel Kay with a second-hand van, £200 and an office in their house.
Today it boasts a £14 million plus turnover and operates out of a purpose-built business park, employs in excess of 80 staff and sells over 13,000 products.
Green-tech has a calendar of events planned throughout the year to celebrate this significant milestone. These range from sales promotions where customers will enjoy a different offer on the 25th of every month; through to a celebratory open day at their head office in October and an invitation-only party after the BALI Landscape awards in December.
Green-tech are working on a 25-year anniversary supplement which will take you inside the company to meet the driving force behind the success, get to know the team who keep the well-oiled machine turning and give you an insight into their operation, brands and products.
Rachel Kay, Green-tech’s Managing Director comments: “We are incredibly proud of our achievements over the last 25 years. When Richard and I made the decision to start our own business it was just the two of us and we never expected to become the largest or the leading landscape supplier in the UK.
"The last two and a half decades have seen our family grow to include three children and our work family grow to in excess of 80 people. Despite the turbulent times of the recession and more recently the uncertainty surrounding Brexit, we have continued to expand, grow and increase our turnover year on year. Our anniversary year will be no exception as we’re hoping for another record-busting year.”
Green-tech is widely recognised for its commitment to the industry. Each year they support a vast number of events and exhibitions; generally, in excess of 50. They are the headline sponsor of the glittering BALI National Landscape Awards for a fourth consecutive year. They are also headline sponsor of the Pro Landscaper 30 Under 30: the next generation initiative and a sponsor of the Pro Landscaper Business Awards, the APL and the SGD awards.
The company is also known for its commitment to raising awareness and educating the younger generation of the benefits to choosing a career in forestry, landscaping or horticulture. They have successfully taken on a number of Apprentices over the last two years and have plans to recruit more as they believe this is the most effective route to having the skilled workers that will drive the future Green-tech.
Chairman Richard Kay continues: “We appreciate our enviable market-leading position and work hard to stay ahead. We strive to always offer the best advice, products, prices, delivery and service.
"We have great relationships in the industry with customers and suppliers alike which we value greatly We enjoy great loyalty from our customers and suppliers which we appreciate. This has contributed hugely to our success. Whilst we celebrate our anniversary and just how far we’ve come, we’re still looking to improve and grow the business.
"Our next milestone is to reach a turnover of £20 million. We’ll continue to invest in our people, new technology, new product development, our facilities and infrastructure to help us achieve this. So, look out for Green-tech during 2019 and expect the see big things!”
