A record number of
applications have been received in the UK for the 2019 Green Flag Award.
A total of 2,023
sites have applied for the prestigious Award, from world famous parks to local
community green spaces.
Cemeteries,
university campuses, woodlands and nature reserves join the ever growing list
of parks and green spaces that aspire to achieve the international standard.
Paul Todd, Green Flag Award Manager said: "It's testament to the hard work and dedication
of the many park managers, staff and volunteers that we have more applications
in the UK than ever before. It really goes to show how important quality parks
and green spaces are to local communities.
"Special thanks
must also go to the hundreds of volunteer Judges who are currently travelling
the country assessing the applications."
This year's UK
results will be announced on the July 16.
