Students join Green-tech for National Tree Planting Week

To celebrate National Tree Planting Week, Green-tech invited eight Level 2 Arboriculture students from Askham Bryan College to their premises in North Yorkshire for a practical tree planting session.

The students learnt about the many benefits of tree planting and what products are recommended to plant trees for the best chance of survival; before venturing out to put their learning into action.

Green-tech’s Technical & Export Manager Chris Swan gave the students an onsite demonstration of how to plant using the equipment and products provided by Green-tech.

Using what they have learnt at college and the additional industry knowledge given to them in the presentation and demonstration, the students successfully planted four trees between them.

Green-tech is committed to supporting the future of landscaping and arboriculture. The company has strong links with Askham Bryan College and was delighted to combine national tree planting with a live event that provides the next generation with field experience and industry knowledge.

Chris Swan, Green-tech’s Technical and Training Manager commented: “The students did really well. We were only too happy to invite them to look around Green-tech. They were all great and really got stuck in.

"It was a great opportunity for them to learn industry practice and steps to consider if dealing with a tree planting project in the future. They asked good questions about owning a business and pursuing careers in landscaping. Who knows, we may see some of them as part of our Green-tech team in the future!”

Daniel Burdus, the Level 2 Arboriculture Course Manager at Askham Bryan added: “I was truly impressed with the quality of my students’ finished work; the wide selection of trees, physical soil ameliorants, supports, stock protection and aftercare solutions provided by Green-tech was extremely generous, and has greatly helped my learners extend their knowledge and understanding of tree establishment in preparation for their forthcoming assessments.

"Our students are new to trees, and to business, so the opportunity to discuss both the long-term challenges and exciting opportunities for the UK forestry and arboricultural industries was invaluable.

"A huge thank you to Chris and the team at Green-tech for organising another great learning experience!”
