The paving through the Peace Gardens has been successfully refurbished for the long-term, by Sheffield City Council using GftK's vdw 850 Paving Joint Mortar.
The natural stone paving was becoming loose and subject to damage due to the cracking and loss of strength problems associated with both traditional and proprietary, pre-bagged cement based jointing mortars, which had all been tried without success.
The council's engineers found the ideal solution was GftK’s unique, epoxy resin coated, and bound sand based, vdw 850 Paving Joint Mortar from NCC Streetscape. This also enabled the repointing work to be completed without disruptive closures and without any delays due to the weather.
The installation process is also simple - the areas were high pressure water jet cleaned, any loose stone setts were replaced, and then the joints were wet-slurry pointed, as GftK’s vdw 850 effectively self-compacts into the joints, with no tooling required.
Finally the stone surfaces were rinsed, dry brushed-off and within a short time reopened for public access.
