In partnership with charity Hedgehog Street, Birkdale has added to its impressive DuraPost range with the DuraPost Hedgehog Hole.
Designed to be placed between a gravel board and fence post, the product creates a small tunnel for hedgehogs to freely pass between gardens.
Since the year 2000, the UK hedgehog population has dropped by a third. In order to find food, shelter and mates, these spiny mammals require an easy means of access to UK gardens.
Consequently, Hedgehog Street - a partnership project between the People’s Trust for Endangered Species (PTES) and the British Hedgehog Preservation Society (BHPS) - has launched a campaign to sustain and improve suitable habitats for hedgehogs living in suburban environments.
Birkdale, the UK’s leading provider of fencing and gating accessories has offered its own support to the campaign by launching a new product – the DuraPost Hedgehog Hole. The product creates a subtle and small hole in line with a gravel board and beneath a fence panel, encouraging hedgehogs to pass in and out of a garden with ease.
Installing the system is an incredibly straight forward procedure - simply cut down a gravel board at the base of the fence, fit the hedgehog hole and fix it to the DuraPost using self-drilling screws. Then assemble the rest of the fence as usual.
Like the rest of the DuraPost range, this product is made from cold rolled galvanised steel, ensuring it is incredibly strong and durable. As such, the addition of this feature does not weaken the fence. The material is also infinitely recyclable, ensuring it is a very sustainable choice.

The DuraPost Hedgehog Hole is electrophoretic coated and powder coated black with a semi-gloss finish. The product weighs just 0.85kg and is available at your local Birkdale stockist.
