James Seely Park, a cherished community space, has undergone a remarkable transformation, emerging as a vibrant, futuristic playground catering to children of all ages.
The redevelopment, completed in two carefully planned phases, introduces cutting-edge play equipment while paying tribute to the area’s rich mining heritage.
The centrepiece of the upgrade is the Metropolis range, a science fiction-inspired collection of play structures designed to immerse children in a world of flying machines and submarines.
Developed by Proludic, this play area features striking black, brown, and copper colour schemes with stainless steel accents, igniting creativity and adventure.
The redevelopment was structured to accommodate different age groups. Phase One introduced high-energy equipment for older children, including a double cableway and a tall climbing net that offers panoramic park views. Phase Two focused on inclusivity, adding accessible play features for younger children and families.
The Metropolis range transforms Seely Park into an adventure zone with standout features such as:
- The Metropolis Tower (J47101): A 4-meter-high landmark featuring climbing challenges, slides, and lookout points.
- The Submarine (J47450): Encouraging nautical-themed play and storytelling.
- The Dragster (J3601): Designed for high-energy, fast-paced fun.
- Custom-Designed Inclusive Seesaw (J987): Ensuring children of all abilities can participate in interactive play.
While embracing the future, the redevelopment also pays homage to Seely Park’s coal mining past. The intricate cogs and wheels incorporated into the playground structures reflect the once-prominent headstocks of the village’s colliery, which thrived until the 1980s.
