STIHL has launched the new BTA 140, the first battery-powered earth auger in its range.
Designed for professional users across forestry, landscaping, agriculture and groundcare, the new machine delivers powerful drilling performance for a wide range of applications, from tree planting and fencing to landscaping and groundworks.
The BTA 140 is powered by STIHL's professional ALLPRO battery system and produces 1.7kW of power, offering increased performance over the existing BT 131 petrol earth auger.
Designed for demanding professional applications, the new machine combines high performance with the lower noise, zero direct emissions and reduced maintenance of battery-powered technology. From tree planting and installing fence posts to constructing gates and foundations, the BTA 140 is built to tackle a wide range of jobs throughout the working day.
Professionals can continue using STIHL's existing range of auger attachments, including diameters from 40mm to 300mm, as well as a planting auger bits and earth loosener. This compatibility allows the BTA 140 to handle a wide variety of applications without the need to invest in new accessories.
To maximise productivity across different ground conditions, the BTA 140 features two drilling speeds, allowing users to select the most appropriate setting for the task at hand. A reverse gear also enables the drill to be easily released should it become stuck in the ground, helping to minimise downtime on site and allowing work to continue quickly.
Operator comfort and safety have also been carefully considered. A large ergonomic support pad rests comfortably against the user's body or leg during operation, providing greater stability and control while drilling. If the drill encounters an obstruction, STIHL's QuickStop System automatically detects the resulting twisting force and immediately stops the machine, helping to reduce the risk of injury. Once the obstruction has been cleared, the automatic reset function allows work to resume simply by pressing the throttle.
The BTA 140 features a robust protective frame with a recessed handle to help protect the power unit during transport. The machine is also IPX4-rated for splash protection, making it suitable for use in a wide range of weather conditions.
For optimum performance, STIHL recommends pairing the BTA 140 with the new AP 300 P ALLPRO battery as well as the previous generation AP 300 S, enabling users to drill up to 230 holes on a single charge when using a 90mm auger in moderately compacted soil. Fully compatible with STIHL's professional AP System, the BTA 140 allows batteries to be shared across a wide range of professional tools.
The new BTA 140 arrives as STIHL celebrates its 100th anniversary. Since 1926, STIHL has defined the global standard for battery and petrol-powered forestry, landscaping, and residential gardening equipment for professional and domestic users.
