Birkdale has launched a new high-performance acoustic fencing and environmental noise barrier range – Sound Shield Pro.
Expertly engineered to reduce noise and enhance privacy using reflective or absorbative materials, the range includes three barrier options to deliver the ideal solution for any application where noise reduction is required.
The range utilises the company’s DuraPost steel fence posts and frames, which are manufactured from cold rolled pre-galvanised or structural steel.
Highly weather resistant, DuraPost is BRE tested to withstand wind speeds of up to 110mph, providing consistent performance and backed by a guarantee of up to 25-years. With a unique patented H-section profile, it has a superior strength-to-weight ratio in comparison with traditional fence posts.
Independently tested and accredited by the Acoustic Research Centre at the University of Salford for proven sound reduction, the range includes three barrier options, all compliant with BS EN 1793-2:2018. The options are:
In combination with a Cellular Adhesive EPDM Acoustic Rubber Seal within the fence posts, this barrier is constructed from 70% PEFC Certified 225mm x 47mm slow-grown redwood boards, with 85mm x 35mm twice weathered capping of the same material. With a traditional look and feel, this solution achieves a sound rating of 27dB.
A contemporary fencing solution that mimics the appearance of timber without the maintenance requirements, this barrier achieves a sound rating of 23dB. Available in Natural, Charcoal, Sepia Brown and Light Grey, the panels are made from at least 70% recycled materials including a combination of HDPE (high-density polyethylene) and rice husks. They will not warp or degrade over time and do not need to be treated or painted.
A sleek and modular system made from 70% recycled PVCu boards, stacked using a tongue and groove connection to create a high strength panel, this barrier achieves a sound rating of 24dB. Available in Anthracite Grey, Olive Grey, Sepia Brown and Black with a timber look finish, it is resistant to mould, rot and UV damage.
John Abernethie, Founder and Chairman at Birkdale commented: “The new Sound Shield Pro provides an ideal solution for all commercial projects, highways and residential housing developments where it is necessary to reduce and control the transmission of sound.
“While local noise regulations can vary by region or sector, all our products are designed to be installed in accordance with the local building regulations – whatever they may be – ensuring your project easily meets the necessary compliance requirements.”
