The use of dried aggregates bound or bonded in resin appeared on the UK market around 25 years ago and were originally pioneered in the US. The advances made in epoxy and polymer resins have led to systems that cater for all types of commercial and domestic applications.
The wide range of colour shades available give a great alternative to paving or tarmac and can be selected to blend in fully with the surrounding areas. The market for this type of finish increases year on year as specifier’s for new build and restoration work acknowledge the extra choices that are now available to them.
Essentially decorative or coloured aggregates are bound or bonded within clear or coloured resin that is coated over the existing surface providing it is solid and unbroken. The resin bonds with the original surface providing a brand new surface.
The better quality resin systems are also resistant to petrol or oil spills and will not fade or discolour as they are UV resistant. Experienced contractors using resin bound systems can create patterns and company logos by using different contrasting colours.
The applications for both resin bound and bonded aggregates are endless and in the past the products have been used for external and internal flooring, footpaths, driveways and patios as well as commercial applications such as car parks, cycle and foot paths, bus lanes and markings for road junctions.
The use of different colours of aggregates and resins can create any type of pattern required.
Derbyshire Specialist Aggregates have over 50 standard colours and grades available that when used either individually or blended together on site create an unrivalled range of colours for you to choose from in the Resin Bonded Products section.
