SuperCEDEC® has been developed to allow the succesful use of its sister product CEDEC® to be extended into some of the more awkward applications where it is not ideal, such as high usage areas and when adjoining hard paving.
For those who are not aware, the principle of Cedec® footpath gravel is to form a firm but porous structure that retains moisture yet allows any excess to flow through. The materials used are specially graded decorative aggregates ideal for areas where traffic is too heavy for grass but where a natural appearance is desired.
As SuperCedec® uses Cedec® as the base material with organic additives, it retains the porosity that Cedec® has but the additional additives result in providing a much firmer surface. It has great resistance to scuffing and being kicked around, and it too has a natural appearance with only a slight loose crumb on the surface.
Available in gold, red and silver, SuperCedec® is SUDS (Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems) compliant and unlike many porous surfaces, it does not suffer so badly with pollution and detritus blocking its pores. SuperCedec® is not a permanently setting material, when wet it reverts to a more pliable state and then remakes itself when dry. Therefore, because the material gets remade naturally it allows the unwanted particles to move through.
SuperCedec® has been developed and over the past two years has been successfully used in many projects. SuperCedec® Red was chosen for use at Hereford Cathedral due to its firm stable surface, while also being free draining, to suit the needs of a very highly pedestrianised area.
Although it is designed for pedestrian application, occasional use by emergency vehicles, cars, lorries or maintenance equipment will not cause any significant damage, providing the laying instructions have been adhered to. In order to function effectively SuperCedec® needs to be rained and walked upon, and it will also function undercover if watered.
The permeable nature of this product combined with its stable structure makes SuperCedec® ideally suited for use in urban tree pits and footpaths.
