Environment Controls bolsters teams to meet rising demand for invasive weed control

Invasive and amenity weed removal experts, Environment Controls have recently expanded their team with 6 new members to join the Amenity department.

The main reason behind this influx of hires is to keep up with growing demand for the specialised amenity weed control services and the securing of new multi-year contracts for UK councils.

As Environment Controls' services continue to expand, particularly in providing sustainable weed management solutions for hard surfaces and highways, the company has invested in growing its workforce. The Amenity Team utilises innovative, in-house designed quadbikes and hand-held kits, engineered to reduce herbicide and water usage by over 60%. This approach not only offers an environmentally conscious solution but also ensures efficient and courteous service when working in public spaces. Currently, each amenity technician covers an average of 35km per day, serving 9 contracts across locations including Southampton, Basingstoke, Blackburn, Erewash, Halton, Kent, Nottingham, Plymouth, and Leicestershire.

The new additions to the Amenity and Operations Team include:

  • Michelle Savage – Amenity Technician: Michelle joined in 2025 and is newly qualified in herbicide treatment. She was drawn to the role by the opportunity for three months off during winter, allowing her to pursue her passion for travel. Michelle values meeting new people on the job and the satisfaction of completing an area of spraying.
  • Lucy McDonnell – Amenity Technician: Lucy also joined the amenity team in 2025 and is newly qualified in herbicide treatment.
  • Matthew Taylor – Amenity Technician: Matthew brings prior experience in invasive weed control and a solid background in herbicide treatments for hard surfaces and highways, offering valuable practical know-how to the team.
  • Charlie Long – Amenity Technician: Charlie joined the amenity team in 2025 and is newly qualified in herbicide treatment.
  • Luke Webb – Amenity Technician: Luke joined the amenity team in 2025 and is newly qualified in herbicide treatment.
  • Jonathan Waters – Operations Administrator (Seasonal): Jonathan will provide essential support for both on-site work with the Amenity Team and administrative tasks across the wider operations unit, ensuring smooth functioning during busy periods.

Jennifer Holmes at Environment Controls said: “We’re excited to introduce some fantastic new members of our Amenity and Operations teams here at Environment Controls. As our services have expanded into the amenity sector, our client list has increased, and we've invested in growing the team to fulfil new contracts won this year as well as on-going multi-year contracts won in previous years.”
