Perennial, the UK’s only charity supporting everyone facing challenges in horticulture, celebrated the generosity of its supporters at the Dig Deep for Perennial Fundraising Lunch, held at The Cumberland, Marble Arch.
There are lots of reasons why people in horticulture may turn to the charity, such as the impact of an accident on their ability to work, bereavement, health issues or a family breakdown.
This event brings industry professionals and long-standing supporters together, all with a common goal: to raise essential funds for Perennial’s services, which provide free one-to-one, confidential support to help people in horticulture overcome challenges and build better lives.
Guests enjoyed a sumptuous three-course lunch, kindly supported by menu sponsor MorePeople, with tables beautifully adorned with floral centrepieces sponsored by The Plantman & Co.
Hosted by the award-winning horticulturalist and presenter Manoj Malde, the afternoon was filled with warmth, laughter and generosity. Highlights included Perennial’s Envelope Raffle, sponsored by F B & Sons Lawns & Landscapes, and an energetic live auction sponsored by Melcourt Industries, led by The Charity Auctioneer, Mark Head. Together, these activities raised an impressive £36,500, which will go directly towards ensuring Perennial can continue to provide free information, advice and support to those in need.
Manoj was joined by professional gardener and radio personality Matthew Biggs for an entertaining and insightful Q&A session. Their discussion, laced with humour and honesty, also touched on the challenges of long-term health issues, underlining how vital Perennial’s support can be in times of need.
One of the most memorable moments of the afternoon was the Silver Shovel Spotlight Awards, recognising dedicated supporters who have gone above and beyond for the charity. These individuals and organisations have not only raised vital funds but have also helped ensure Perennial’s message reaches those who need it most. Perennial’s heartfelt thanks go to Michael Strachan, Valerie Foweraker, Helen Auty, Neil Miller, Mark Gregory, Kingston Landscape Group, STIHL, and Robin Redmile-Gordon for their outstanding commitment.
Perennial would also like to extend their sincere thanks to the more than 70 individuals and organisations who generously donated auction and raffle prizes. Special mentions include Neville Stein, Exclusive Hotel Group, Wembley Stadium, Meidrim Meadows, Hever Castle, Sandringham Estate and The Cumberland, among many others.
Jamie Gault, Perennial’s Chief Executive, commented: “We came together as a community for this fundraising lunch, which will go towards helping people during the winter period and beyond. We were delighted to welcome so many friends and supporters for this special occasion, and to celebrate those who truly ‘dig deep’ – taking on challenges, hosting events, opening their gardens and much more to raise funds for Perennial. Everyone involved should feel incredibly proud of their efforts, which help us deliver our vision to build better futures for people in horticulture and their families.”
With over 720,000 people working in or retired from horticulture across the UK, Perennial’s services are in considerable demand. The shared goal at this event was for everyone to raise essential funds so Perennial’s services can continue to provide a lifeline to those who dedicate their lives to growing and caring for the green spaces that enrich our lives.
Every time Perennial's supporters dig deep, they make a real difference to the lives of people in horticulture and their families. As the only UK charity helping everyone facing challenges in horticulture Perennial relies on support from the industry.
With the kindness and generosity of all those who attended, Perennial can continue to step in early, offering support before difficulties grow into life-changing crises.
