Award Winning Bridge Company Celebrates 25 years
A UK industry leader in the manufacture of bridges and structures is celebrating 25 years in business with a prestigious export order to Nigeria.

CTS Bridges based in Shepley, Huddersfield is building three steel footbridges for the town of Uyo in Nigeria. One takes the pedestrians to a local university and the others span a busy main road.

Sales Manager Wendy Sykes said "This is a real coup for us as we do very little exporting due to transport costs for bridges being so expensive". The client in Nigeria has seen our bridges and admired British Design and manufacturing technology.

The Company, established in 1988 by Chartered Engineers Ian Preston and John Terry, has also won awards for two recent schemes. A new cycleway bridge with ramps connecting the Olympic Park to Bow Riverside in London was named best cycling facility by the London Cycling Campaign.

CTS also received a Wood Industry award for a 44m stress laminated bridge at Far Moor, Nr Horton in Ribblesdale on the Pennine Bridleway.

The firm specialises in design, manufacture and installation of steel and timber footbridges, bespoke landscape structures and decking and has designed and manufactured more than 10,000 bridges ranging from small scale timber footbridges in parks and gardens to over 100 metre steel cable stay bridges. Its bridges have been installed all over the UK over roads, rivers and railways.

Recent projects include a steel beam bridge at Brownhill Reservoir, a steel suspension bridge in North Yorkshire and a footbridge over the Kennet and Avon Canal at Hungerford as well as three Fibre Reinforced Plastic (FRP) bridges at reservoirs in Scotland.

The company has a broad customer base made up of Local Authorities, Construction Companies, House Builders, Landscape Contractors and other bodies such as Sustrans, National Trust, Canal & River Trust etc.

John Terry – Director of CTS said "It has been an exciting 25 years. When the company started, nobody had a mobile phone, letters were being typed on typewriters and all correspondence was sent by post. CTS has embraced innovations in technology and looking forward, we are now introducing FRP bridges to our extensive range and see this as an exciting development where long term maintenance is a key issue. We are looking forward to working with our customers over the next 25 years".

As part of the 25 year celebrations CTS have launched a new Non-Slip Decking product range called Hi-Grip Extra. This unique product has a wide non-slip strip across the centre of a timber deck board providing an improved slip resistant surface, ideal for disabled users, wheelchairs, cyclists as well as pedestrians.

Other plans include a move to bigger purpose built premises, developing Eurocodes and CE Marking.

CTS has an excellent safety record and is registered to ISO 9001:2008, CHAS, Constructionline, RQSC.

Even in today's climate, CTS Bridges continues to develop, expand and innovate whilst building valued lasting relationships with clients.
