British Sugar TOPSOIL, the UK's largest supplier of topsoil to the landscaping, construction and amenity sectors, has declared the past year its best ever for sales.
In the year to September 2014, the company supplied 240,000 tonnes of BS 3882:2007 topsoil to projects across the UK. This is over a 20% increase on the amount of topsoil supplied in the year ending September 2013.
Andy Spetch, National Topsoil Manager said: "TOPSOIL is the ultimate sustainable product. By recovering, screening and blending the rich arable soils that adhere to the 7.5 million tonnes of sugar beet, delivered by farmers to British Sugar's UK factories, we are providing our landscaping, construction and amenity customers with a natural, consistent product that meets BS3882:2007.
"Our sales figures for the past 12 months speak for themselves; customers want to use sustainable products but not at the expense of quality, consistency and regulatory compliance."
Mark Richardson from Stewart Landscape Construction uses British Sugar TOPSOIL in a lot of his projects. He said: "Having successfully used Landscape20 for over 10 years I know that I will always get a high quality, consistent topsoil."
British Sugar's highly integrated approach to manufacturing aims to transform all of their raw materials into sustainable products. They recycle soil for landscaping, stones for building and lime for soil conditioning. 500,000 tonnes of animal feed is also produced from the sugar beet pulp.
TOPSOIL's product is stored undercover at the company's four sugar factories, Bury St Edmunds, Cantley, Newark and Wissington, ensuring availability and consistency all year round. It is available for delivery to projects across the UK in loose, bulk loads.
