An overgrown wasteland beside Bath Carers Centre has been transformed into a peaceful and secluded garden thanks to a generous gift from the BBC One Show and a donation of turf from Q Lawns.
The One Show Garden that featured at RHS Hampton Court this year was designed by Alexandra Noble, an architecture student from Bath University.
It seemed only fitting that the garden should be relocated to the city that inspired its creation; and so, with the help of Councillor David Dixon, the garden was gifted to the Carers Centre on Lower Bristol Road.
The original show garden included features that were not practical for the volunteers at the Carers Centre to maintain, and it was a little smaller than the space available. Garden Designer Rosie Nottage helped to "tweak" the design and Q Lawns donated enough turf to create lovely lawns in the spare space.
The garden was installed by a huge team of volunteers and was officially opened by Angellica Bell from The One Show on Friday August 15.
Bath Carers Centre supports over 4,000 carers from Bath and the surrounding area.
Angela Lambert from Q Lawns was lucky enough to meet some of the carers and volunteers from the centre when she attended the opening ceremony. "I was honoured to meet one lady in particular," says Angela.
"Jill explained to me some of the challenges of balancing a career with the unenviable task of caring for her sick husband. The Carers Centre had helped her cope with the stress and offered practical advice. Jill now volunteers at the Carers Centre and is looking forward to sharing her gardening experience and expertise with others. She's a lovely lady and I am pleased that Q Lawns have been able to help her to help others."
The opening of the BBC One Show Garden will be featured on the programme on August 28.
