Refurbished gym set to host prestigious sporting event
Gym-goers can now focus on their fitness in brighter and more attractive surroundings.

Tollcross Technogym based in Glasgow is set to be home to next year's Commonwealth Games, and has been supplied with a number of light fittings as part of a significant £12,000 refurbishment scheme.

The upgrade to facilities forms a scheme from City Building, a programme of improvements encouraged by Glasgow City Council's management team.

A workout is now achievable in brighter and improved surroundings due to a replacement of existing luminaries following advice and the valued expertise of Dextra Lighting staff.

Dextra staff were requested to provide a design scheme for the gym space to replace existing luminaires and put forward products which fulfilled the brief of providing energy saving lighting solutions.

The latest luminaire in the surface range, the Duet T5 fits in perfectly with the energy saving objective required within this project. This T5 lighting fixture encompasses energy efficient fluorescent lighting qualities, flexibility, and is combined with a modern and attractive appearance, vital in a community space home to the public.

Energy efficiency was the focal point surrounding the project, with replacement luminaires required in two separate areas downstairs and one on the upper floor of the gym.

Following the expert advice from Dextra Lighting, it was agreed that the existing track and spot lights and T8 luminaires and some Dichroic down lights be replaced with far more energy efficient lighting options in the form of the Duet T5 and MODLED products.

The Duet T5 is an ideal luminaire for education lighting, office lighting and offers an energy efficient commercial lighting solution. White louvres combined with white end caps were used within the gym space.

Combined with the latest AWB louvre range and utilising the highest grade aluminium, the lighting design of the Duet offers bespoke closed back louvre blades to give light output ratios of up to 82%. Easy removal and maintenance is achieved without any visible retention in the front face of the light fitting, ensuring the minimal lines are not affected through the product's leaf spring system.

This highly adaptable luminaire has the ability to suit a wide range of different environments, it can be surface mounted or suspended, either individually or continuously run. Both single and twin lamp configurations can be suspended from two point Y suspensions, due to the luminaire design encompassing a central gear line and cable entry along with balance.

Technogym staff also took advantage of the highly sought-after range of LED light panels in the form of the MODLED range.

MODLED ceiling lighting offers a range of lighting solutions for commercial lighting, office lighting andreception lighting.

Offering a light output ratio of up to 85% combined with a 50,000 hour LED life, the MODLED also offers an optional halo effect in a wide range of colours, making it an effective, long-life and bespoke luminaire.

Following the impressive refurbishment, gym staff, visitors and Glasgow City Council's management team can now look to the hosting of next year's prestigious sporting event.
