The Institution of Structural Engineers is calling for global submissions until April 19 2013, for the structural engineering industry's most prestigious awards ceremony.
The global institution endeavours to celebrate excellence in structural engineering. Entries from any firms, large or small are encouraged, and structural engineering projects of any scale that display excellence, creativity, sustainability and value as per the judging criteria are welcomed.
Institution CEO Martin Powell believes that awards are the perfect tribute to the industry, and to diligent and innovative structural engineers, stating: "Whilst also celebrating the extraordinary global achievements within the structural engineering industry, the awards are the ideal opportunity for the structural engineering community to showcase their projects and their diversity."
There are 11 categories to enter which include the Award for Community or Residential Structures, the Award for Art and Entertainment Structures, and the Structural Heritage Award amongst many others.
The subsequent shortlisted and winning entries are provided the opportunity to showcase projects that display the talents of the structural designers involved, their indispensable contribution to the built environment, and their involvement in leading the industry's development.
Established in 1968 and in their 45th year, the Structural Awards are a thoroughly diverse, multi-national, world-class industry competition. Some of last year's entries and winners included the London 2012 Olympic Stadium, UK; Titanic Belfast, UK; Adidas Laces, Germany, and the Al Hamra Tower, Kuwait.
The Structural Awards ceremony on 15 November 2013 culminates in the presentation of the Institution's Sustainability Award as well as the ultimate accolade – the Supreme Award for Structural Engineering Excellence, an award selected at the judges' discretion, from the principle categories, which demonstrates the finest example of structural engineering design.
