A LEADING nursery in Hereford has this month (July, 2015)
re-opened its Management Trainee Programme.
Wyevale Nurseries' two year, in-house programme covers all areas
of the business and the company is calling for people to apply for a position.
Andy Johnson, Managing Director at Wyevale Nurseries in Hereford,
said: "The programme is open to graduates of all degree disciplines, preferably
relating to horticulture and crop based agriculture.
"What we are looking for from our potential Management Trainees is
that they have a positive "˜can-do' attitude and they enjoy being challenged to
come up with solutions.
"We want them to be innovative using not only their ideas but
also assessing and supporting others' ideas. Successful applicants will be
responsible for their own learning and should be able to demonstrate a
proactive attitude in learning opportunities. We want candidates to also be
career-minded, ambitious and flexible in their approach to learning."
During the two years successful applicants will work in the container,
trees and transplants production divisions, supply chain operations, which
includes both garden centre and amenity despatch, goods handling and transport
and will also spend time in the Wyevale Nurseries' head office departments.
Assessment
will be through regular reviews and assessing performance against agreed
objectives. Each trainee will have a mentor to meet with on a regular basis.
There will also be a Programme Co-ordinator to support the trainee and to
ensure that regular constructive reviews are undertaken.
Andy
added: "Upon successful completion of the programme, it is anticipated that we
shall be able to match trainees to a suitable role with the company which would
benefit from their particular strengths."
The
company's previous trainees and apprentices who have successfully completed
their programmes, have all, to date, been offered permanent employment within
Wyevale Nurseries.

Wyevale Nurseries is one of the largest family-run wholesale
nurseries in the UK. It was established in 1930 by Harry Williamson, a
horticulturist and entrepreneur. It became the company it is today under the
leadership of his son, Peter, who sadly passed away in 2011.
The Williamsons' saw the opportunity to sell their product to an
undeveloped retail market, creating one of the first garden centres, followed
by a chain. In 1987, the retail side needed to expand and the 19 garden centres
were sold as a PLC.
The family then turned its focus to Wyevale Nurseries Ltd. It
continues to be a family-run business with ownership and joint chairmanship
currently being held by the third generation, Heather and Simeon Williamson,
with plans for the fourth generation to takeover in the future.
Wyevale Nurseries has a significant product range and is regularly
introducing new plants. It offers a large variety of trees, shrubs, hedging,
herbaceous and specimen plants to garden centres, landscape contractors, local
authorities, foresters and landowners.
