Bulb season sales rush at Wyevale Garden Centres

With the bulbing season in full swing, Wyevale Garden Centres, the UK’s largest retail garden centre group, predicted last weekend (17th and 18th September) to be the biggest sales weekend for plant bulbs. Supporting the prediction, the garden centre saw an astonishing 22% increase YOY and 35% increase WOW in bulb sales over the two days.

Nearly 13,000 people purchased bulbs across their centres nationwide and some of the most popular types to be purchased were Alliums and Narcissus.

This sales uplift was a result of many shoppers attending dedicated centres to seek advice on preparing bulbs this autumn. 45 selected centres across the country held a weekend of top tips and demonstrations on autumn bedding, spring bulbs and lasagne planting. Wyevale Garden Centres and charity partner Marie Curie also teamed up to offer customers the chance to pick and mix several loose, mixed daffodils for £4.99, with 10% of every purchase going directly to the charity.

Mairi Devlin, category manager at Wyevale Garden Centres says, ‘This weekend always features heavily in our annual calendar but the sales figures for this year have been particularly high. It’s important that bulbs are planted at this time of the year so the nations gardens are in full bloom next spring and there’s certainly a strong demand for the product this season.”
