Can-Am takes new Defender to the max

Bombardier Recreational Products (BRP) is enhancing its side-by-side vehicle (SSV) range in 2017 with the addition of the new Can-Am Defender MAX DPS.

This innovative SSV has been designed to combine the comfort, control and power of the original Can-Am Defender with the ability to carry six passengers, providing a larger versatile workhorse vehicle that can handle the rigours of multiple terrains and applications.

The unit is powered by either the 50-hp HD8 or 72-hp HD10 Rotax V-Twin engine. Both have been designed with work in mind by Rotax’s engineers and offer the user the right amount of torque, performance and power when riding the trails or towing and hauling goods.

This latest addition to the Defender line-up features a new high rigidity chassis made from high-strength low alloy (HSLA) grade steel, which ensures the SSV has a solid design that allows it to handle the strain of heavy loads easily.

The Defender MAX DPS has also been fitted with lightweight cast-aluminium wheels and Maxxis big horn tyres, which allow it to respond effectively to rugged terrains, from rocky assents to boggy fields and marshland. The vehicle’s driver and passengers will be seated on its Dual VERSA-PRO bench seat, with a hardwearing vinyl cover, which has been inspired by modern pick-up trucks, and features profiled corners to improve the entry and exit of the cab.

Paul Wood, Cam-Am commercial manager UK and Ireland, says, “The addition of the Can-Am Defender MAX DPS to the 2017 off-road line-up highlights BRP’s commitment to expanding the vehicle choice available in the SSV market in the UK and Ireland, while also assisting in the continuing growth of the brand’s market share in the commercial sector. This new SSV brings together the Defender’s inherent values of being tough, capable and clever on a larger scale, which will allow Can-Am to open the doors to new markets and exciting opportunities in 2017.”

The combination of Double A-arm front and Torsional Trailing arm Independent (TTI) rear suspension, Visco-Lok front differential and Tri-Mode Dynamic Power Steering (DPS) assist in providing the user with an easy to handle SSV.

Riders will benefit from the Can-Am Defender MAX DPS’ highly durable cargo box, which has a 454kg load capacity and can easily be divided up to suit the user’s requirements using the integrated recesses in the bed.

The unit has a LinQ quick attach accessory system that offers adaptable cargo hauling options and works with numerous Can-Am accessories. In addition, the vehicle’s cabin has a total storage capacity of 42.1 litres for miscellaneous items such as small tools, mobiles and keys.

Additional features on the SSV include an easy-to-read multi-functional gauge, providing riders with everything they need to know, from diagnostics information to miles travelled.

The unit also has a 140-watt output from four 35 watt reflectors, a 40-litre fuel tank and an integrated front steel bumper and central skid plate to protect the vehicle when working.

The Can-Am Defender MAX DPS is maintenance-free for one year, 1,865 miles (3,000 km) or 200 hours.
