In January, the 17th annual Macclesfield Christmas tree collection took place, where residents give a donation of a minimum of £5 to have their Christmas tree collected and disposed of with help from King Feeders UK.
All proceeds are given to the East Cheshire Hospice. Last year, 2016, the collection raised £102,000 and in 2017 the sum is expected to exceed £110,000.
The trees, which are collected by a band of volunteers, are transported to a central collection point, where they are shredded in preparation for composting.
Two complimentary Eco Green Shredders have been provided by King Feeders UK, based in Macclesfield, for the two day process. The shredders quickly and effortlessly processed approximately eight thousand Christmas trees into a good compostable mulch.
This annual successful charitable fund-raising event has just been awarded The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, and has already been replicated in 30 other areas to benefit other hospices.
