Inside out inspiration for flower show visitors

Visitors to the 2018 Harrogate Spring Flower Show can look forward to topsy turvy, inside out inspiration this year with a series of spectacular new rooms where plants and flowers take over the living space.

The GREENhouse has been designed to blur the lines between house and garden, creating a home infused with nature complete with living wallpaper, cascading flower shower, an aromatic bed of herbs and even a vege-table!

The huge floral installation is being created in association with Slingsby - Spirit of Harrogate and will be built by teams of florists from across the region, including Harewood-based Leafy Couture, the artisan network Flowers from the Farm, and Helen James Flowers from Harrogate.

Nick Smith, Show Director, said: “We all love to bring the outside into our homes through house plants, window baskets, flower arrangements and even water features. The trend for extending our living space into the garden has also never been stronger.

“The GREENhouse blurs the lines between outside and inside even further asking the question – what would happen if nature took over the rooms and we had a home that was truly at one with nature?”

Visitors to the show, which runs from 26 – 29 April 2018 at the Great Yorkshire Showground, will be able to explore a series of four different rooms and, of course, no house would be complete without a garden. Students from Askham Bryan College, near York, have been challenged with the task of bringing the inside out for The GREENhouse.

Also new for the 2018 spring flower show are Secret Sheds offering community groups the opportunity to open the door to new possibilities. Secrets will also be a hot topic for a special talk by garden journalist and author Victoria Summerley, who will be revealing the secret world of 25 celebrity gardeners at 2.30pm on Thursday 26 April.

The Avenue show gardens have a new feature, called Designed to Last, showcasing design solutions for real gardens with problem growing conditions. Themes for this year’s large-scale gardens range from the Tree of Life to the mills and moors of Yorkshire, including a humorous tribute to some of the county’s most famous characters.

Rated Britain’s top gardening event by Which?Gardening, Harrogate Spring Flower Show also features stunning displays by nearly 100 of the country’s top plant nurseries, plus Britain’s biggest exhibition of flower arranging and floristry.

There is a packed programme of talks and demonstrations across four live theatres, including lively chat in the Grow! Garden Theatre, great growing advice in Shed Talk, and a menu of delicious seasonal dishes from a team of talented chefs in the Feast! Food Theatre.

Young visitors to the show can join our fun-loving friend, Pod, in his new pop-up play patch, complete with lots of hands-on educational activities.

Thousands of high-quality garden products, unique handmade crafts, lovely gifts and specialist foods all add to a truly great day out for all garden lovers!
