Housing developments should bloom for years to come

Housing developments have continued to thrive as the country tries to keep up with the demand for new homes.

Last year alone, 200,000 homes were added to the UK housing market. And with so much emphasis on strict time schedules and budgets, cultivating and managing the grounds, community areas and landscaping must continue to be a priority if a community is to enjoy its surroundings for years to come.

Craig Pinder, Development Manager at Wynyard Park, chats about the importance of landscaping within a housing development, and how Wynyard Park’s commitment to landscaping excellence has set it apart as a place of luxury and high quality living.

There are very few housing developments that will be quite the scale and beauty of Wynyard Park, a luxury housing development which is home to some of the most exclusive and sought-after plots in the North.

"Going the extra mile to ensure the perfection of the landscaping and maintenance is paramount," said Craig. "Our grounds maintenance operatives work tirelessly day in day out in their quest for perfection of every inch of the development.

"It has become very apparent, from the many compliments that we receive on the high-quality upkeep of the Park, that house buyers are becoming fed up with poorly designed housing estates, and are crying out for a higher standard of living, with a lot of personality and an air of class that they can be proud to be associated with.

"A well designed and maintained setting has been identified as one of the most important factors a potential buyer considers when house hunting. With this in mind, why is it that quality landscaping is often overlooked by developers? Rushed, inadequately cultivated plants and shrubs add little value to the end product at all and make community spaces uninviting for residents.

"To date we have invested heavily in decorating the Park with ornate, cast iron hanging baskets. Over 40 baskets adorn the lampposts throughout the estate, with that number growing as the estate develops, and the mix of Petunias, Geraniums and trailing Nepeta bring beautiful colour and style to the scenery.

"It is very important to us that we source quality stock and where possible use local providers. We used Blackfords of Hartlepool, a local family-run nursery, to plant, cultivate and grow all of the hanging baskets for us which have absolutely thrived through the summer and been a beautiful asset to the estate."

Whilst areas of Wynyard Park are still under development; with potential new residents visiting every day it is of even greater importance that the landscaping is kept to the highest standard and any development disruption kept to a minimum. Ensuring the highest of standards is by no means an easy job, after all nature is nature and landscaping doesn’t always work out exactly how you plan, but this is all the more reason to ensure it is kept a top priority, as seeing your hard work flourish is incredibly rewarding.

"We have a free bike hire service that sits with our concierge at the west entrance to the estate," he adds. "Residents can make use of the bikes to cycle round the Park and enjoy parts of the woodlands. This service will be mirrored once we have completed the east entrance welcome lodge.

"As Wynyard Park continues to develop over the next five to ten years, the work of our landscapers will continue to increase. To support the substantial growth of Wynyard Park going forward we see the importance of growing our workforce, which is why we have partnered with a local further education college and taken on two grounds and maintenance apprentices to support the team.

"I simply can’t emphasise enough the importance, for us our landscaping adds that extra touch of luxury, it makes potential buyers see our plots as their homes and on top of this our landscaping generates a strong emphasis on community and the importance we see in enriching our residents’ lives at Wynyard Park."
