Empowering Parks conference to debate future strategies

The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) is inviting park and landscape managers, along with other key stakeholders, to take part in an all-day event on 26 September at the studio in Birmingham.

Delivered by the Landscape Institute, in association with the Parks Action Group, West Midlands Parks Forum and The Parks Alliance, this is a day of learning and development for people who manage natural spaces of all scales – from urban parks and green spaces to national parks and designated landscapes.

The free conference will explore the future of our parks and landscapes and the challenges they face, and share insight and innovation from across the sector, in the UK and abroad.

During the event you can learn more about the skills and tools vital to securing the benefits of parks and landscapes: partnership brokering, community empowerment, big data and natural capital accounting.

Also, there will be opportunity to make and debate the business case for parks, introducing new approaches and building the skills we need to tackle to challenges they face in the 21st Century.

Speakers at the high-profile event include:

  • Matthew Bradbury, Chair of The Parks Alliance and CEO of Nene Park Trust will present the Business Case for Parks in England
  • Alice Casey, Head of Government Innovation Programmes at Nesta, introduces delegates to the pioneering Rethinking Parks programme – looking at innovation in governance models, income generation streams and usage data.
  • Victoria Bradford-Keegan, Project Manager at the National Trust and Kathryn Deeney, Natural Infrastructure Manager at Plymouth City Council, explain how the new Future Parks Accelerator is supporting ambitious projects that will transform the way we manage and fund public parks and green spaces in the UK.
  • APSE’s Paul O’Brien examines the findings of the workstreams established by MHCLG in response to the 2017 Inquiry into Public Parks.

Free to attend. Limited tickets available – and will sell out fast! Book now here.
