The nation has chosen their ten favourite Green Flag Award-accredited parks to receive this year's Green Flag People's Choice Awards.
Teams of staff and volunteers are today celebrating after Cassiobury Park in Watford, Margam Park in Neath Port Talbot, Oxhey Activity Park and Oxhey Park in Watford, Strathaven Park in South Lanarkshire, University of Essex Wivenhoe Park, Valentines Park in Ilford, Victoria Park in Tower Hamlets, Warley Woods in Sandwell, and Wollaton Park in Nottingham received a People’s Choice Award for their Green Flag Award winning green space.
The award, voted for by the public, is part of the Green Flag Award - the international quality mark for parks and green spaces – and recognises the nation’s top ten favourite parks.
Almost 18,000 members of public took part in the vote to officially name these ten high-quality green spaces as their favourite Green Flag Award parks.
The news comes after research conducted by Keep Britain Tidy shows that for parks to be able to contribute to improvements in health and wellbeing, they must be accessible, well-managed and maintained, and offer something for everyone within the community.
Green Flag Award Manager Paul Todd added: “I would like to congratulate everyone involved in making these ten parks worthy of a People’s Choice Award.
“These are vital green spaces for their communities. These awards are testament to all the hard work of staff and volunteers, who do so much to maintain the high standards demanded by the Green Flag Award.”
This year, 2,208 parks and green spaces met the standard of the Green Flag Award – more than other time in the scheme’s 26-year history. Land managers can apply for a Green Flag Award for 2023 now.
