Innovation in invasive weed control at international conference

Emerging challenges, industry developments and novel approaches to tackling invasive weeds will be debated at the International Invasive Weeds Conference 2023.

Hosted by the Property Care Association (PCA), the conference brings together experts, academics and experienced remediation technicians to deliver a series of discussions and presentations on the issues facing the industry.

The conference is a key event for professionals working within invasive weed remediation, as well as academics studying related topics and those in industries or organisations likely to be impacted by invasive weeds including construction, environmental, conservation, agriculture and horticulture.

Daniel Docking is Technical Manager at the PCA and will be chairing a session on updating control options during the conference.

He said: “Invasive weeds can impact projects ranging from large scale infrastructure to small domestic properties and can affect anyone including individual homeowners, landlords, councils, businesses and other organisations.

“PCA’s International Invasive Weeds Conference 2023 will cover the latest research and innovations in invasive weed control, alongside sessions on updating control options and guidance, policy and the law.

“As well as providing an opportunity to learn and accrue BASIS points, the conference provides a platform to connect and network with leading experts in the field.

“We will also be launching the PCA’s updated Code of Practice for Japanese knotweed, featuring the latest developments in current best practice.”

Renowned speakers scheduled to appear at the conference include Ard Reijtenbagh of Soilwise, Charles Hughes from the Canal & Rivers Trust, Dr Tom Bennett from the University of Leeds, Ed Lewis at Railscape, Mark Buckingham from Bayer, Undine Kalcenaua from Defra and William Weld at Certis Belchim.

The event also includes a panel debate on ‘Glysophate induced dormancy – myth or fact?’

PCA’s International Invasive Weed Conference takes place at The Slate, University of Warwick in Coventry on Thursday 16 November.
