Harrowden is supporting GroundsFest again with a focus is on Meadowmat Birds & Bees Wildflower Turf as it is ten years since it was introduced to the landscaping world.
The countryside has suffered a dramatic reduction in wild flowers which has had a knock-on effect for insects, birds and pollinators. Meadowmat Birds & Bees was and is, one of the ways we try to redress the balance.
It can take decades to establish wildflower meadows and there are precious few left. Whilst growing wildflowers sounds easy the conditions they prefer are disappearing so Meadowmat is a fast and simple solution to creating a wildflower bed or better still a meadow.
Each variety of Meadowmat wildflower turf is a colourful mix of flowering plants and grasses all growing strongly on our proven matting system.
Meadowmat Birds & Bees is a mix of 35 native British wild flowers, seven naturalising flowers and four selected grasses that will encourage a wide variety of wildlife into any garden. Besides being a joy to share your space with, Birds and Bees Meadowmat will actively support biodiversity.
It has a long flowering period, supplying pollen and nectar for bees, butterflies, hoverflies and moths all through the spring and summer and well into autumn. It is a source of food for caterpillars and therefore a vital part of the butterfly and moth life cycle as well as providing autumn seed heads and a ready supply of insects and larvae for birds.
Birds and Bees contains mostly perennial plant species so install it once and the plants will grow back year after year, provided the conditions are right. Not all of the flowering species are perennial. We’ve included some annual and biennials too, for a range of interest.
Harrowden will have specialists in turf, sedum and wildflower turf on the stand during the show, with a great range of products for landscape and green roof applications and we can also talk bespoke mixes as well as standard products.
