Japanese Knotweed Ltd celebrates 15 years of invasive weed management

Japanese Knotweed Ltd, invasive weed specialists, marks 15 years in business with a strong track record of supporting property developers, homeowners, local authorities, and infrastructure projects across the country.

Founded in 2010, the company has built a reputation for the identification, treatment, and long-term management of invasive plant species, particularly Japanese knotweed. Over the last 15 years, the business has expanded its range of services, from helping housebuilders survey land before construction begins, to assisting homeowners in avoiding costly legal disputes caused by encroachment.

Since its launch, Japanese Knotweed Ltd has grown to employ over 50 staff, delivering projects annually for over 8,000 public and private clients.

With invasive species costing the UK economy an estimated £1.7 billion a year, Japanese Knotweed Ltd is one of a small number of specialist companies helping to mitigate their impact on infrastructure, property, and development.

Over the years, the company has worked with a wide range of renowned UK clients, including the London Borough of Hounslow, Surrey CC, Taylor Wimpey and Travis Perkins.

Its commitment to innovation is demonstrated through the development and deployment of bespoke quadbikes as part of its Smart Amenity Weed Management service. This approach reduces herbicide usage by up to 60 per cent while maintaining effectiveness and improving operational efficiency on large or sensitive sites.

In addition to its work on Japanese knotweed, the firm also delivers specialist bamboo control and removal services. This enables landowners and developers to access a complete invasive species management solution through a single provider.

Among its recent achievements, Japanese Knotweed Ltd has been named Contractor of the Year at the Property Care Association (PCA) Awards. It also won the Training and Staff Development award at the PCA Best Practice Awards, recognising the company’s continued focus on quality, training, and industry standards.

Looking to the future, Japanese Knotweed Ltd has secured new contracts with Nottingham City Council and several regional councils. These will see the team deliver extensive invasive weed control programmes due to commence later this year.

Jennifer Holmes, Head of Marketing & Business Development at Japanese Knotweed Ltd said:The business has expanded into new markets to deliver quality, cost effective and innovative weed management contracts for a diverse range of clients. In particular clients are benefiting from our Multi-Contaminant Removal Service which saves our clients time and money in resourcing multiple contractors. We’re licensed to remove asbestos in soils - which is commonly found on knotweed contracts.”
