Leading fencing and gate accessories wholesale supplier, Birkdale has launched a new RIBA-accredited CPD, Boundary Design for Sustainable Construction, designed to support architects and commercial specifiers in delivering compliant, high-performance and sustainable boundary systems.
Drawing on Birkdale’s 40+ years of industry experience, it provides practical guidance on performance-led specification, common causes of failure and early-stage fencing design decision-making.

The CPD covers topics within RIBA Core curriculum: sustainable architecture, design, construction and technology. The CPD allows architects to explore the best applications of different fencing materials, apply planning, structural & regulatory standards with confidence
and identify and avoid the specification errors that most commonly lead to boundary fencing issues.
John Abernethie, Founder and Chairman at Birkdale said: “Our CPD compares the performance of concrete, timber and steel post systems, examining durability, maintenance requirements, environmental impact and whole-life cost. The CPD highlights the long-term advantages of modern steel systems, including extended service life and reduced maintenance.
Panel options including composite, acoustic, metal and retaining systems are also explored, with guidance on selecting solutions based on performance requirements such as sound attenuation, durability and aesthetics.”
Birkdale is going to be presenting the CPD at the upcoming RIBA Expo in London on 19th March 2026. If you're not able to attend the event in London, book a virtual or face-to-face session with one of our expect specification sales managers by visiting www.birkdalesales.com/commercial
