The Gardens Trust has expressed its gratitude for the incredible show of support for its role in the English planning system during the Government’s recent consultation on statutory consultees reforms.
The Trust robustly contests the proposal to remove its statutory consultee role.
It has provided evidence that this would not speed up the planning system but risk jeopardising the future of precious parks and gardens that have been created and enjoyed over many centuries.

The official response and the Trust’s key points can be found here.
MPs and peers from all parties have also been incredibly supportive, writing to Matthew Pennycook, the Minister of State for Housing and Planning who launched the consultation.
Whatever the outcome, the Trust is determined to continue championing the role that the UK’s world-famous historic parks and gardens can play in supporting positive economic growth and healthy cohesive societies.
