Industry developments and product innovations ramp up

Alan Prickett, Managing Director of ISEKI UK & Ireland, has observed significant transformations in the professional side of the grounds maintenance industry since 2005.

One of the most notable changes is the transition away from heavy cylinder triple and 5-gang machines, commonly used by councils and contractors, towards rotary and flail machines.

These newer machines are often equipped with grass collection capabilities, offering several advantages over their predecessors.

The lower maintenance costs, resilience to impacts and general wear, and the elimination of the need for cylinder grinding have all contributed to this shift in preference.

Another ongoing major development in the industry is the rise of autonomous machines. Whereas such technology was virtually unheard of two decades ago, autonomous machines have now become among the most prominent options available. Although robotic systems have had limited effect on the sales volumes of heavier machinery so far, they are increasingly capturing market share at the lower end of the ride-on mower segment.

Within ISEKI’s own product lines, the most substantial changes have been driven by new emission controls and machinery safety legislation.

The adoption of EU Stage-V diesel engines has led to increased costs and complexity for larger diesel-powered machines but also produced notable improvements in air quality.

Furthermore, ISEKI has modified its diesel machines to operate with HVO fuels, providing customers with environmentally friendly options.

The rising sales of electric Raymo remote-control bank mowers further illustrate how environmental, and health and safety considerations are influencing customer purchasing decisions.
