What if your drainage problem isn’t actually a drainage problem?
Every year, golf courses, sports pitches, landscaped developments and domestic gardens spend thousands trying to solve standing water, weak turf, poor plant establishment and shallow rooting.
The usual response is more drainage, more aeration or more cultivation. But what if the real problem lies deeper?

Across the UK, we regularly find sites where water is trapped above a hidden compacted pan layer beneath the surface. Years of machinery traffic, footfall, construction activity and repeated surface cultivation can create a dense barrier that water, air and roots simply cannot penetrate.
The symptoms are easy to spot: puddling after rainfall, black layer, saturated surfaces and struggling plants. The cause is much harder to see.
While traditional aeration techniques are highly effective within the upper root zone, many only influence the top 200–300mm of soil. Over time, deeper restrictions can remain untouched, creating a hidden layer that continues to hold water and restrict root growth. We call this Hidden Soil Failure.
At Apex Soil Solutions, our specialist Geo-Injection technology targets these deeper compacted layers, restoring the natural movement of water, oxygen and roots throughout the soil profile.
