TV gardener joins Wildflower Co.'s first Field Day celebrating the future of Britain's wildflower meadows

Television presenter and award-winning garden designer Danny Clarke, also known as The Black Gardener, joined wildflower biodiversity experts, land managers, customers and industry professionals at Wildflower Co.'s headquarters near Overton, Hampshire, on Friday 10 July for the company's first-ever Field Day.

The event celebrated the growing movement to restore Britain's wildflower meadows, with guests enjoying a packed programme of expert talks, behind-the-scenes tours and the launch of the company's new consumer brand 'Wild Gardens' and its first product 'Meadow in a Bag', which has been designed to make creating beautiful, biodiverse wildflower spaces in domestic settings easier than ever.

Hosted at Ashe Warren Farm, the day focused on the opportunities and challenges surrounding Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG), habitat creation and nature recovery.

A highlight was the panel discussion, Restoring Britain's Meadows, which brought together industry experts James Hewetson-Brown, Managing Director of Wildflower Co.; Helen Simmen, Research Officer at Wildflower Co.; television presenter and award-winning garden designer Danny Clarke, The Black Gardener; and Tom Moody, Managing Director of Hampshire Homes Group and DesignScapes Southwest Ltd.

The panel explored the importance of restoring Britain's wildflower meadows, discussing biodiversity, habitat creation, sustainable landscaping and how organisations, developers and communities can work together to create spaces that benefit both people and wildlife.

Guests put their questions to the panel, sparking lively conversations about the future of nature recovery across the UK.

With an estimated 97% of the UK's wildflower meadows lost since the 1930s, delegates also heard how restoring these valuable habitats is becoming an increasingly important priority, supported by government funding and growing recognition of the environmental benefits they bring.

James Hewetson-Brown, Managing Director of Wildflower Co., said: "Our first Field Day was everything we hoped it would be - bringing together people from across the industry to share ideas, learn from one another and celebrate the important role wildflowers play in nature recovery.

"It was fantastic to welcome Danny Clarke to the farm and to give guests a real insight into what happens behind the scenes, from our seed production fields to our research labs.

“We were also delighted to introduce Meadow in a Bag, which makes it even easier for people to create thriving wildflower habitats in their gardens and green spaces."

Danny Clarke, The Black Gardener, said: “Nature belongs to everyone, and events like Field Day are so important because they help connect people with the environment in a practical and inspiring way.

“I would like to congratulate Wildflower Co. on a great event and for everything they are doing to help restore Britain’s wildflower meadows. It was wonderful to see so many people coming together to share knowledge and ideas. Every wildflower space, no matter how big or small, has the potential to support wildlife, boost biodiversity and bring people closer to nature."

Throughout the day, guests took part in discussions on biodiversity enhancement, habitat creation and ecological restoration, while networking with experts from across the sector and seeing first-hand the work taking place at Wildflower Co.'s headquarters.

Visitors were also treated to a guided tour of the farm with Wildflower Co.'s James Hewetson-Brown, Helen Simmen and Oliver Hewetson-Brown, who shared how the company grows, harvests and processes native wildflower seed, alongside an exclusive look inside the company's research laboratories where new ideas and innovations are helping shape the future of meadow restoration.

Following the success of its inaugural Field Day, Wildflower Co. hopes to make the event an annual fixture, continuing to bring together the people helping to shape a greener, more biodiverse future.
