Barnet Council has begun consultation on its plans for a new £400,000 playground for Heybourne Park in Colindale.
Proposed new equipment includes a triangular climbing net with hang out zones for young people and a huge ‘multi-play’ active zone featuring slides, bridges, monkey bars and more. Planned facilities also include swings, roundabouts, picnic areas, a big noughts and crosses board and more – designed for children of all ages, from toddlers to teenagers.

The consultation will run until Thursday 6 August. Cllr Alan Schneiderman, Cabinet Member for Environment and Climate Change, said: “We are delighted to be building Heybourne Park’s first playground in what is currently an empty space.
“Right now, residents have to walk a good 15 minutes to take their children to playgrounds in Montrose Playing Fields or Silkstream Park. This project will give them a state-of-the-art playground right on their doorstep – and the children will love it!
“Please get involved and let us know what you think of our plans before we start work on them.”
The new playground forms part of Barnet Council’s wider masterplan to transform and revitalise Heybourne Park using S106 funding from the redevelopment of the nearby Grahame Park Estate. Early proposals include a new BMX and skate park, table tennis area and amphitheatre that could provide a sunny seating area for small events like ‘Movies in the Park’.
Work on the new playground is expected to begin in spring 2027.
