Give Your Garden the Power of Purple with Pantone’s Colour of 2018 – Ultra Violet!

Sarah Kimbrey, Designer at Forest Garden, the UK’s leading garden furniture and structure specialists, explains the excitement that comes with the new Colour of the Year, and how you can introduce it into your own garden.

“Here at Forest Garden we always anticipate the announcement of Pantone’s Colour of the Year. It is guaranteed to spark the imagination and get us thinking about how we can use it with our products in the garden. The 2018 announcement was no different, and the choice of Ultra Violet was very well received!

Described by Pantone as a ‘dramatically provocative and thoughtful purple shade’, 18-838 Ultra Violet is a bold, complex hue, that will add real personality to your garden, with purple being synonymous with unconventionality and artistic creativity.

Surprisingly versatile, purple is also associated with mindfulness and regality, so whatever you are planning for your garden, it can be worked into the scheme. We have teamed up with specialist paint manufacturer, Thorndown, to coat one of our new Plant Ladder Displays in their interpretation of the striking shade, that the company have named ‘Purple Rain’. Our Plant Ladder Display is beautifully designed to help to create a focal point of flowering blooms, can be used to section off parts of the garden, and makes a huge statement in this powerful, stylish colour.

We recommend planting up your Ultra Violet Plant Ladder Display with bright yellow pansies, daffodils or primroses for an impactful, complimentary colour scheme, with each colour making the other even more dynamic. Or, if you want your purple to really pack a punch, why not plant your container up with flowers in a similar, violet shade? Senetti Violet, lavender and pansies are all great options.”

The five-tiered timber garden Plant Ladder Display offers a flexible, functional and decorative feature to a garden or patio. With a small footprint of 1 metre wide and 56cm deep the display delivers additional growing space in a small area making it ideal for small gardens, patios or balconies. Staggered shelves offer different heights to accommodate a variety of container plants.
