The versatility of artificial grass can make it an ideal option for schools and facilities eager to offer a wide range of sports, but a growing number of homeowners are also exploring how they can create a sporting stage in their own backyard.
This was exactly what the Ryan family wanted to do when they bought their large Victorian property in rural Warwickshire. Having inherited a macadam tennis court, the family decided they wanted to have a surface installed, which would allow them to play football, hockey, basketball and cricket – as well as tennis during the summer months.
"Our house already had a tarmac tennis court when we purchased it," said Adrian Ryan. "Not being massive tennis players, we wanted to convert it to a more multi-use surface."
The Ryans approached Bradleys Surfacing Systems – a family-owned business, which supplies and installs a range of synthetic sports, play and landscaping surfaces. After a brief consultation, Bradleys recommended that TigerTurf's Evo Excel artificial grass would be able to facilitate a wide range of sports, as well as offer the kind of durability which makes it reliable all year round.
Since the completion of the project, the Ryan family and friends have been able to partake in all of their favourite sports without even needing to leave home. Adrian Ryan comments: "We employed Bradleys Surfacing Systems to design a surface that would allow us to play football, hockey, cricket, basketball and tennis too. TigerTurf's Evo Excel was selected and the result is an all-weather surface we can use as a family year round – it's transformed our court and Bradleys were great to work with."
Tom Bradley of Bradleys Surfacing Systems said: "The project allowed us to show how an existing space can be made much more multi-functional, simply by changing the surface. By increasing the number of different sports they can play on the surface, the family can be much more active all year round."
