New from the Perlite
Institute, the international trade association for perlite, is an online,
one-page guide that highlights the benefits of using this sustainable mineral
for rooftop gardens.
The guide describes how
rooftop gardens utilizing horticultural grade perlite can reduce the heat
island effect of smaller, older buildings while also treating storm water
runoff, extending the life of the roofing and creating a habitat for flora and
fauna.
"As a case study referenced
in this guide demonstrates, using a high percentage of Perlite in rooftop
gardens can help building owners achieve their environmental and financial
goals," said Alison Evans, communications manager for the Perlite Institute.
The "Gardens in the Sky –
Growing Food on Rooftops" guide, along with a number of other helpful and
informative guides focused on the use of perlite in horticulture, is available
on the Perlite Institute's website.
