With the help of the generous donations from pupils’ families and the local community, Handcross Park Schools’ dream of a new all-weather, multi-use games area (MUGA) became a reality.
In June, Smith Construction began constructing the £430,000 MUGA and the facility is now complete, ready for the new school term.
Handcross Park School is a Preparatory School, nestled within fifty acres of beautiful parklands. They provide education for children from the ages of two, right the way through to thirteen and boards children from the ages of seven to thirteen.
The new MUGA will accompany Handcross Park School’s other fantastic sports facilities for PE lessons and competitions. Local sports clubs are also looking forward to utilising the MUGA out of school hours, providing a boost for sports within the community.
Following the cut and fill works, ground stabilisation and drainage installation, Smith Construction began the construction of the 86m x 56m MUGA. Smith Construction installed TigerTurf’s Evo Pro, a fantastic carpet which preforms extremely well for a multiple of games. The preferred sport for this carpet is hockey, although because of its “spring like” fibres, it can be utilised for other sports such as tennis, athletics and even recreational football. During the tennis season the MUGA will be relined to include six tennis courts.
The MUGA is enclosed by fencing, with goal recesses to allow for full size and half size hockey to be played, optimising the space. In order to allow multiple games to be played within the MUGA, we have provided divider nets, a perfect solution to split the MUGA into playable sections. Floodlights have been installed to allow PE lessons, training and completions to continue throughout the darker months.
