Johnston Sweepers believes its latest Euro 6 C201 Compact is the best compact it has brought to market yet, ticking all the environmental boxes with lowest ever exhaust emissions, highest capture of harmful dust particles and lowest noise levels – ideal for landscape sweeping applications, as well as city centre precincts.
Introduced last year to accommodate the latest VM Euro 6 engine, it’s the smallest in its class too, with only a mere 150mm added to accommodate the new engine, making it shorter than all other Euro 6 Compacts on the market and retaining the Johnston Compact’s renowned manoeuvrability.
The new engine itself incorporates state of the art clean air technology achieved through the two silencers in the exhaust system. The first includes a diesel particulate filter which removes the harmful diesel particulates that are a primary cause of asthma. The second is fitted with a SCR unit (selective catalytic reduction) which cleans up the exhaust and gets rid of the noxious chemicals by injecting urea (ad blue) directly into the SCR unit. This then cleans up the harmful carbon monoxide and converts it to carbon dioxide, so the air coming out of the exhaust is actually cleaner than the air going in.
Euro 6 imposes new low limits on four emissions measurements – carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, nitrous oxide and particulates. The VM Euro 6 engine chosen for Johnston’s Euro 6 C201 produces significantly lower levels of all these emissions, including a reduction of 87% in hydrocarbons and mono-nitrogen oxides.
The result is a super-clean engine which will have a significant impact on air quality in Low Emissions Zones, helping cities to achieve their emissions targets, and maintaining air quality in parks and open spaces.
The slender proportions of Johnston’s C201 – ideal for park pathways and close-up sweeping - have always given it exceptional manoeuvrable, but Johnston’s patented four wheel steer system has taken this to an entirely new level. The first of its kind in Europe, the system combines the advantages of four-wheel and articulated steer with the 80o steering lock of Johnston’s two-wheel steer, resulting in the best of both worlds, allowing unprecedented manoeuvrability around street furniture, park benches, trees and parked cars for those hard to reach areas.
Dust capture is now a major health condsideration for sweeper operators and controlling it has been the challenge for many local authorities. In the drive to increase dust capture, the Euro C201 is fitted with Johnston’s special pumped water recirculation system which retains the very smallest dust particles within the body of the machine, and even re-uses the water, exceeding EUnited standards. This is great for landscape applications where air quality is a chief factor.
More good environmental news is that the C201 has now been proved to be one of the quietest sweepers on the market. In noise trials certified by independent Millbrook Proving Ground testers, the C201 scored an average sound power measurement level of less than 96dB(A), around that of an electric lawn mower – an exceptionally low level within the sweeper industry, and an important factor in the consideration of driver comfort and noise nuisance to the public.
Together with the C201’s baby sister machine, the 1m3 CN101 - the lightweight subcompact class sweeper which comes in as the smallest in Johnston’s outdoor sweeper range - Johnston’s small sweepers are ideal for sweeping in open spaces, as well as urban and pedestrian areas where space is confined, combining high performance, low cost of ownership and lowest emissions, all in an environmentally friendly package.
