Townscape Products has completed its proudest, boldest and most detailed graphic concrete installation to date with the unveiling of the British Army Flying Memorial at the Museum of Army Flying in Stockbridge, Hampshire.
Unveiled in a service of dedication led by Field Marshall Michael Walker, Baron Walker of Aldringham, GCB, CMG, CBE, DL – the cenotaph comprises 39 printed graphic concrete panels displaying the names of 5,127 British service men and women that have died serving the country since World War One.
The pioneering project is thought to be the first of its kind in the UK and it is believed that printed concrete has never previously being used to display so much text.
Jonathan Goss, managing director, Townscape Products, said: “Conscious that there was no dedicated memorial for these 5,127 British heroes – the organisation committee wanted to create a peaceful and impactful memorial within the grounds of the museum where people could contemplate and pay their respects.
“With names being etched into the concrete via the printing process, graphic concrete represented a way of honouring every single one of these heroes, without the lengthy lead time associated with professional engraving.
“Technically, given the intricacy of so many words and letters, we knew this represented the biggest ever test to our casting process. With a huge amount of planning, the production went exactly to plan and we're delighted that the panels look absolutely perfect.
“The result is a fitting tribute to some of our nation’s heroes and we are delighted with the finished installation.”
