Addagrip approved
contractor Total Protection (GB) Ltd was appointed by Phelan Construction Ltd
to reconstruct a courtyard and footpaths at the University of Essex in
Southend.
The university was
looking to replace areas of old resin bonded gravel surfacing which was showing
signs of wear and tear and general ageing.
It was decided to
remove and replace nearly 600m2 of the bonded material with BBA certified
Terrabound Resin Bound surfacing to provide a hard wearing, low maintenance,
decorative paving with a longer lifespan for this busy campus.
Due to the limited
access of the areas in question, logistics restricted the size of the machinery
and equipment commonly used for this type of surface removal and disposal, but
the challenge was overcome successfully.
With the bonded
surface removed and made good, the new Terrabound Resin Bound surface was
installed in a 3mm Trent blend together with 53 linear metres of Movement Joint
Detail.
The Terrabound Trent
blend suits the vibrant exterior of the campus buildings providing a bright and
welcoming low maintenance space.
Work was completed
in July 2019.
