Councils and Local Authorities are looking to Westermann to control weed and moss growth, without the use of chemicals.
Councils can have many miles of footpaths, roadways, and public spaces to keep weed free. Coupled with ever restricting budgets, something quick and effective is needed.
The CM2 Pro Ride-On range, available from SPA Power Machinery, provides a practical solution. The stiff wire brushes remove weeds and moss with ease, and a regular maintenance routine can ensure areas are permanently looking smart and tidy.
The CM2 Pro power unit is a zero-turn hydrostatic machine, powered by a 4-stroke V-twin 18hp Loncin engine.

Many different attachments are then available to make a multi functional machine, with those listed here used in councils across the country including Milton Keynes Council, as well as Councils in Rotherham, Derby, Penzance, and Doncaster. The system includes:
- R1000 Wire Radial Brush – a 1-metre-wide steel brush; this head is a great ‘all-rounder’ for clearing moss, brushing debris and brightening up the surface too.
- WKB550 Weed Ripper Brush – a 55cm-diameter steel brush; with stiffer braids than the R1000, and positioned on an articulated head. This is a more aggressive brush, which will remove thick weeds and really get into the corners and along kerb edges. The head has 14 locking positions through 180°, and has a tilting function to allow working at varying angles.
- WKB550 Path Re-Edger Brush – a more aggressive version of the WKB550; designed for reclaiming kerb edges where grass has overgrown. Overgrowth of 200-300mm can be quickly cleared to reveal the original pathway or pin-curb.
- AX1200 Axial Sweeper – a 1200mm wide sweeper collector; for picking up loose debris and leaves, available with or without a side brush.
The hydraulic attachments feature a floating position, allowing the brush heads to follow the contours of the ground surface.
To work alongside the Ride-On range is also a collection of hand machines, ideal for the smaller and inaccessible locations. Areas such as drying spaces, alleyways, fire escapes and pathways are all prone to moss and weed growth, and can quickly become a slip hazard.
The WR870 Moss Brush and WKB330 / WKB660 Weed Rippers are low vibration and very efficient. Up to 700m2 can be cleared by one person in a working day.
